DEMONSTRATION VIDEOS
- Parallel Transient Processing: Here’s a short video about using transient processing in a parallel configuration, demonstrating how EQ’ing the parallel channel can provide frequency-targeted attack enhancement.
If you have trouble downloading or playing this video, here’s a mirror file on an alternate server.
- Parallel Gating For Attack Enhancement: If you don’t have access to dedicated transient processing, you can achieve similar attack enhancements in some cases by just using a traditional gate in a parallel configuration, as illustrated in this video.

Freeware Threshold-independent Transient Processor Plug-ins: Threshold-independent transient processors are getting more popular, but I find that each one has a slightly different sound, so it’s worth having access to a few options. As far as freeware is concerned, check out Auburn Sounds Couture, Black Rooster Audio The Canary, Flux BitterSweet, Kilohearts Transient Shaper, and Sleepy Time DSP Transient.
Payware Threshold-independent Transient Processor Plug-ins: Although the available freeware is great, payware options often include frequency-selective processing, which can be handy. If you’re interested in this, here are a few products worth checking out: Boz Digital Transgressor, Izotope Neutron Transient Shaper, Melda MTransientMB, Oeksound Spiff, SPL Transient Designer, Stillwell Audio Transient Monster, and Voxengo TransGainer.
